April Update

Oi! Como vai?

Over the past several months, I’ve seen just how much God has blessed me with the people he has put in my life. You have all been such terrific friends and a great support for me. I am going to miss being in close contact with you all. But even if I am 4,000 miles away from you, we are never disconnected. God holds us together in a way that goes beyond space and internet connections. I’m telling myself that as much as possible now so that when I’m down there and feeling lonely it’ll be easier to remember that you guys are never far from me.

As you can see, I have been practicing my Portuguese. It’s slow building, but I’ve been making progress. So far I’ve been learning through informal means. I’ve found that “Mind Snacks” (an app for Apple) is a great learning tool. Calling me comatose if I don’t practice regularly is a wonderful motivator. I also have my mom who is taking great joy in correcting my attempts at the Portuguese nasal sounds.

I’ve been working on completing a handful of other Wycliffe Associates requirements before the summer comes. I feel like I still have a long ways to go, but then I lift up a few pages on my calendar and realize that my time here is very short! By June 23rd I have to be in Texas for my final training as a teacher with Wycliffe Associates. Then I’m off to Brazil!

The reality is sinking in slowly. I’m sure by May I’ll be in the stage of panic. For now, I am keeping myself busy with work, language, training, and hugging my friends while I still can.

Here we get lit for literature.
